Nicole teaches 6th grade Social Studies and Crew at the Springfield Renaissance School. She studied International Affairs and Political Science at Northeastern University and holds a Master of Education degree from UMass Amherst. Nicole is now in her fifth year at Renaissance, where the students, faculty, and staff continue to inspire and push her to be a better teacher and person.
8th Grade- Jamie Pirog
Jamie teaches 8th grade Social Studies and Crew at the Springfield Renaissance School. She studied World History at Elms College and is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in History Education at Westfield State University. Jamie is in her 4th year of teaching at the Springfield Renaissance School and her 11th year in the Springfield Public Schools. She leads the Zumba Club at Renaissance and spends her free time with her son.

Mr. Sossa is one of the new teachers here at Renaissance. Entering his second year of teaching, he is coming from Worcester, Massachusetts after completing his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Clark University. After having taught in Worcester for a year, he has found a new home out in Western Mass and at Renaissance teaching 9th grade World History. Born and raised in New York, he is Massachusetts at heart. While he may be a history geek, he enjoys film, basketball, football, kayaking and mountain biking.
11th Grade- Jonathan Galanis
Mr. Jonathan Galanis is in his ninth year as a Springfield teacher and currently teaches 11th grade History. He grew up in Walpole, MA and then moved to western Massachusetts to attend UMass, Amherst for undergraduate and graduate studies. Following a brief stint at Chestnut Accelerated Middle School as a practicum student, he taught for two years at the Elias Brookings School prior to joining the staff at Renaissance. In addition to teaching 7th grade and managing a crew of 8th graders, Mr. Galanis also runs the Bicycle Collective with Mr. Soycher, and is the master of planning the most physically draining intensive courses possible. Aside from teaching, Mr. Galanis enjoys spending time with his lovely wife and their dog at their South Hadley Falls home as well as cycling, running, swimming, lifting weights, listening to music, watching basketball, and reading.
